Handwriting is a such complex task, and more and more children are struggling to do it proficiently. ‘Poor’ handwriting can impact upon a child’s overall health and well-being too, so our concern is not just for their literacy abilities.

I will be providing introductory information on:

1. Why participation in handwriting is still so relevant today?
2. What ‘functional automated handwriting’ is?
3. Keeping it simple by debunking some popular myths & commonly-made mistakes!

For example, it is essential for us to put aside earlier understandings, like the ‘perfect pencil grip’ holding so much value and to instead check that our handwriting instructions & interventions align with what the evidence is saying about handwriting and its impact upon overall literacy development.
